Robert I. McCoy - Senior Partner, McCoy & Associates, PLLC. -------- Robert I. McCoy attended Western Michigan University at the age of 16 as one of the first recipients of Upward Bound Scholarship. Mr. McCoy graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Western Michigan University in 1970, a Masters in Political Science from Western Michigan University in 1973, a Masters in Counseling and Guidance in Higher Education from the University of Michigan in 1976 and a Juris Doctorate from the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State College of Law) in 1982. Mr. McCoy began his professional career in 1970, when he worked as an Assistant Director of Roosevelt Community School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Thereafter, he worked for Washtenaw Community College as one of the Faculty (Counseling, Financial Aid, Career Placement and as an Instructor) from 1971 to 1981. Following his graduation from Detroit College of Law, Mr. McCoy created his own law firm in 1982 which later became McCoy & Associates, PLLC. He is currently working in private practice with his daughter, Attorney Robyn L. McCoy, who is Junior Partner with the firm and Attorney Rodrick Green, who is Of Counsel with the firm. Mr. McCoy’s firm was selected in 1988 by U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese, as one of the first private law firms in the country, empowered to sue debtors on behalf of the federal government. Mr. McCoy has worked as special legal counsel for the United States Justice Department and as legal counsel the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Resolution Trust Corporation, State Farm Insurance Company, the Legal Services Plan, the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw County, the Washtenaw and Wayne County Homebuyer’s Program, the University of Michigan Credit Union, the Huron River Area Credit Union and the Washtenaw Credit Corporation. Mr. McCoy was the Legal Counsel for establishment of the Walls Manor Senior Housing Project. Mr. McCoy’s firm has also worked with Bishop P.A. Brooks of the National Church of God in Christ in the establishment of a mortgage program, a Social Service Agency and is currently working on a Federal Credit Union for the Church of God in Christ Mr. McCoy has worked as an Attorney for thirty eight years handling a wide range of cases. Mr. McCoy currently specializes in wrongful death, personal injury, commercial litigation, church law, nonprofit development, estate planning, senior housing development and real estate. Mr. McCoy is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eastern and Western District Court of Michigan, the US Tax Court, the State Bar of Michigan, and the State Bar of Arizona. Mr. McCoy has received numerous awards, been appointed to various boards and is currently a member and was past president of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association. He is also presently a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Arizona Bar Association, the National Bar Association and a former member of the American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice.

Ms. Robyn L. McCoy, Educator and Attorney Partner, McCoy & Associates, PLLC. -------- Ms. McCoy graduated with Honors in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1996 and obtained her J. D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000. Ms. McCoy has served as a Congressional Page for the US House of Representatives under the Congressman William D. Ford in Washington D.C. and interned in the office of US Senator Carol Moseley Braun in Chicago, Illinois. While attending the University of Chicago, she co-founded an academic support network for Black Women called Sistafriends and she was the Umoja (Cultural Chair) for the Organization of Black Students. Ms. McCoy also participated in a study abroad program in France in 1995. She tutored elementary students in the Chicago Public School System and was mentored by First Lady Michelle Obama during her senior year at the University of Chicago. While attending the University of Michigan Law School, Ms. McCoy was the Political Action Chair for the Native American and the Black Law Students Alliance, handling community, civic and political meetings, debates and protests in support of Affirmative Action. She also tutored elementary school students at Patengill Elementary School and participated in an externship in South Africa in 1999, where she worked with Willie Hofmeyr, Head of the Asset Forfeiture Unit and Former Anti-Apartheid Activist. Ms. McCoy has been the recipient of the 1999 University of Michigan’s Black Law Student Alliance’s Distinguished Service Award, the 2017 Vanzetti M. Hamilton Bar Association’s Frederick Douglass Racial Justice & Harmony Award, the 2017 Black Alumni Association of the University of Michigan's Making a Difference Award, the 2017 Black Slate’s Cynthia Diane Stephens Outstanding Jurist Award, the 2017 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers Exceptional Service Award, which is given to recognize lawyers for their consistent and tireless service diversity efforts with the legal profession and underserved communities, the 2018 Recipient of the Lawyer-Guardian Ad Litem of the Year Award from the Michigan Foster Care Review Board and the 2019 Recipient of the Reverend Thomas H. Smith Humanitarian Award at the 66th Annual Brown AME Brotherhood Banquet, Recipient of the State Bar of Michigan's 2022 Champion of Justice Award, Recipient of the Washtenaw County Bar Association's 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. "I Have a Dream Award" for her outstanding service and tireless devotion to the cause of social justice under the law for all individuals and for her commitment to raising awareness and sensitivity racial, ethnic, and gender bias issues in the legal system, Recipient of the Detroit Bar Association's 2023 Frank Murphy Award in recognition for her leadership and service which exemplify the highest professional ideals and demonstration of outstanding service to the legal profession and Recipient of the State Bar of Michigan's Young Lawyers Section 2023 Mentor of the Year Award one of the Recipients of Michigan Lawyers Weekly 2023 Influential Women of Law Award. Ms. McCoy is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. McCoy has been a licensed practicing Attorney since 2001, working as an Associate with the firm of McCoy & Associates, PLLC, an Attorney with the Legal Aid Defender’s Association, representing indigent adults on felony cases and working with the Michigan Children’s Law Center as a Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem for children on neglect cases and a Defense Attorney for children on delinquency cases for the past ten years. She worked with the Educational Advocacy Unit of the Michigan Children’s Law Center from March of 2017 until December 2019 and is presently a Partner with the firm of McCoy & Associates, PLLC, handling criminal defense, educational advocacy, family law, estate planning, wrongful death and personal injury cases. Ms. McCoy is the past President of Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Past President and Board Member at Large of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association (the African American Association for Washtenaw County), a past Board Member for the Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Chapter of the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce and a Member of the Wolverine Bar Association, the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar, the National Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Washtenaw County Bar Association. Ms. McCoy has been a Lecturer at Eastern Michigan University teaching a class on the Law and the African American Experience and has planned, facilitated and organized numerous presentations on “What To Do When Stopped by the Police”, “Knowing Your Rights When Encountering the Police, Immigration or You Are the Victim of Ethnic Intimidation”, the “Expungement and Federal Pardon Process", “How to Successfully Navigate the Public Education System” and "Path Way To The Law". Attorney Rodrick K Green is an attorney with over 35 years of experience. With offices in Ann Arbor and Detroit, he services all of southeastern Michigan. His specialties include family law, criminal law and Probate matters. Community service is a hallmark of Attorney Green. He is currently a Washtenaw County Road Commissioner and previously served 14 years as Trustee for Superior Township. He has also served as Past Chairman of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). Attorney Green has also served as past President of the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association and represented Wayne County for 6 years on the Representative Assembly for the State Bar of Michigan. He is also a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association. Attorney Green is currently the proud Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church of Ann Arbor where he has served as pastor for 12 years. He is also the current Vice-President of the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Ministers Alliance and the First Vice-Moderator for the Huron Valley District Baptist Association.
